1SG Blackstone,
Thank You for your question. Virtual training can be found at https://milgaming.army.mil. In the
VBS2 repository and several scenarios have already been developed:
Cordon & Search MPMission.ebo Several ambush scenariosUrbanSim is a PC-based virtual training application for practicing the art of battle command in complex counterinsurgency and stability operations. UrbanSim consists of a game-based practice environment, a web-based multimedia primer on doctrinal concepts of counterinsurgency, and a suite of scenario authoring tools. The UrbanSim practice environment allows trainees to take on the role of an Army battalion commander, and to plan and execute operations in the context of a difficult fictional training scenario. After developing their commander's intent, identifying their lines of effort and information requirements, and selecting their measures of effectiveness, trainees direct the actions of a battalion as they attempt to maintain stability, fight insurgency, reconstruct the civil infrastructure, and prepare for transition. UrbanSim targets trainees' abilities to maintain situation awareness, anticipate second and third order effects of actions, and adapt their strategies in the face of difficult situations. UrbanSim is driven by an underlying socio-cultural behavior model, coupled with a novel story engine that interjects events and situations based on the real-world experience of former commanders. SUPPORT: UrbanSim requires DirectX, Adobe Air and .NET (NET and DirectX are included) When installing the Practice Environment" there is an option to install .NET before the installation begins. If the computer you are trying to install UrbanSim on already has .NET installed, you will receive a non-critical error at the end of the "Practice Environment" installation. It is all right to click 'OK' to proceed normally. The "Practice Environment" will load correctly. At the completion of the "Practice Environment" installation, you will receive a DirectX error if the most current DirectX has not been installed on your machine. The executable for DirectX installation is available in the "Direct X" folder within the "UrbanSim v1.01" directory. Installing this software prior to the "Practice Environment" installation will prevent this error from appearing.
I also recommend you try out the
MilGaming Army Professional Forum to see what is current under development.
FT Benning has the Dismounted Soldier System which provides the rigors and realism needed to execute tough and demanding training in full spectrum operations. The training system also allows leaders to plan and execute individual and collective tasks in a challenging virtual environment with squads or teams conducting multiple iterations to achieve training objectives and maximize training time. Soldiers use natural motions just as they would in a live environment to perfrom complex maneuvers, such as viewing around an obstacle, as well as arm and hand signals to communicate with others. POC for information on this system isMilton Fields at 706.545.3089.
I recommend you contact Billy Messengill, 706.626.2332, billiy.l.messengill.civ@mail.mil for VBS2 questions or scenario capability or development options.
If I can be of any further assistance please just let me know.
